COVID-19 Response

last updated: May 21, 2021

Bolo Cakery is still open for your stress-eating pleasure. We, like many other small businesses, have taken a pretty major pounding over the last year and a bit. Do drop by.

Heads up: if you come into our store, you might find us at a time when we're not wearing masks. The specifics are private. We will share this much: the reasons aren't ideological, and we're not a making a political statement.

Rest assured: We have worked closely with AHS to achieve a setup that remains fully compliant with public health measures.

AHS is aware of our operating practices. They have inspected our site. They are satisifed that we are operating safely, even within the context of a global pandemic. In fact, we’ve got some extra measures in place to keep you safe, to keep us safe, and to keep our lights on.

COVID. What a giant pain in the donkey.

Your role

Weren’t expecting this, were you? This goes two ways.

  1. If you’re sick, stay home.
  2. Please follow public safety guidelines at all times when visiting Bolo Cakery.
  3. Please remain polite and respectful.

Regarding number 3: our customers have been great. Thanks.

Our role

  1. If we’re sick, we stay home.
  2. We follow public safety guidelines when working at Bolo Cakery.
  3. We remain polite and respectful.

So far, so good, right? Well, because we’re a business, there’s more:

Personal Hygiene

Wash your hands with soap and water. Bathe regularly. Again – soap. Smell good. Y’know? Our parents raised us that way.

Hygiene is super important to us. Always has been.

Baseline Business Hygiene

Our personal interest in cleanliness extends to our hiring: all of our staff feels the same way.

In addition to our personal hygiene practices: establishments like ours have had pretty strict rules in place for ages, set by the province in consultation with medical & legal professionals and industry representatives.

Here’s the Public Health Act Food Regulation, and here’s the Food Retail and Foodservices Code. Read them if you’re having trouble sleeping.

They’re boring, but they’re important. We follow them to the letter.

Hygiene is super important to us. Always has been.

COVID Hygiene

In addition to our personal hygiene practices and in addition to our baseline business hygiene practices, we have taken the advice of public health officials to further mitigate risks associated with COVID-19.

No political statements or soapboxing here (and honestly, we’d rather not get into those discussions in the store):

  1. mitigating risk is good business practice,
  2. these precautions are fully in keeping with the personal and baseline business hygiene values described above.

Additional COVID Hygiene Measures

  • plexiglass barriers at the counter, between customers and staff.
  • plexiglass barriers in the kitchen, between staff.
  • hand sanitizer is available for customers at the door, and at the till.
  • contactless payment is our preference anyway, but especially these days.
  • floor stickers are in place so you can know exactly where to stand while you wait your turn to collect your tasty tasty numnums adhere recommended physical distancing guidelines.
    • standing still from the sheer excitement and anticipation is the real challenge.
  • currently, we limit the number of patrons in the store to 1 individual (or family unit) at a time.
    • never leave your child in the car unattended.
  • sanitize the literal !@$# out of everything.
    • seriously. So much sanitization.
  • only disposable cups for coffee at this time, and no self-service for lids, cream, milk, mylks, sugar or sweetener.

Hygiene is important to us. Always has been.

Stay safe. Eat cake.
